130 Census Collector jobs available in the South East

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is today launching a recruitment drive for 130 Collectors in the South East, to reach every town and property during the 2011 Census.

The local Collectors will be part of the team of 29,000 required across Australia to work on the 2011 Census of Population and Housing.

The part-time positions involve distributing and collecting Census forms to households in nearby areas.

Census spokesperson for South Australia, Caroline Deans, says the ABS is looking for community-minded, well-organised people to apply for the Collector roles. "If you enjoy being out and about within your local community you may make an excellent Collector," Ms Deans said. “Even if you are busy right now, Census is held during the quieter winter months, so put an application in now for a possible job in a few months’ time.”

"This is a great opportunity to earn a bit of extra money to top-up your usual income, or if you are just looking for something special and interesting to be involved in, which is relevant to every person in Australia."

ABS Census information is broadly used by governments, businesses and individuals across Australia for planning and analysis.

Census collectors will be employed from 1 July until 8 September, and will earn between $1,300 and $2,800. All training required is provided by the ABS.

Applications are open from 9 April to 5 May - apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census
