Jimmy Little supports Census jobs for the mob

National treasure Jimmy Little has thrown his support behind the 2011 Census and is calling on local Aboriginal people to become Census staff and help give their mob a voice.

Census advocate Jimmy Little says a record 400 Census jobs are available for local NSW Aboriginal people to help tell their community's story.

"We need the whole mob counted and local people are the best to do this," Jimmy says.

"A good Census count can make a real difference in your community. Information is used to show where things like health clinics, schools, roads and other important services should be."

"Through my diabetes awareness work with The Jimmy Little Foundation, I see where services are needed, but it's only you mob on the ground who can make change happen by being involved in things like the Census."

Uncle Jimmy is encouraging people to help the Census any way they can.

“If you are a good talker and know your local area, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is keen to hear from you," Jimmy adds .

NSW Census Director Mark Harding says that the ABS is privileged to have Jimmy backing the 2011 Census.

"It is such an honour to have Jimmy's support for the 2011 Census and our current recruitment drive," Mr Harding says.

"The ABS is committed to employing local Aboriginal people to help conduct the Census and help plan for a brighter future.”

400 Census Supervisor, Remote Mobile Team, Collector and Interviewer jobs are available for local Aboriginal people across NSW.

Good pay, training and support will be provided.
