Record 120 Collector jobs available in Northern Tablelands - New England

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking for a record 120 Census Collectors in Northern Tablelands - New England area to help conduct the Census on 9 August 2011.

These Collectors will form an army of 29,000 Collectors nationally making this Australia's largest ever peace time operation.

As an active member of his hometown of Armidale, District Manager Jack Rapley, passionately believes in the value of giving back to your local community by working on the Census.

"I'm looking for Census Collectors who have deep roots in the community and understand the area they live in," Mr Rapley says.

"The region around Armidale can be tough, inhospitable terrain and I need Collectors that are fit and understand the lay of the land."

"Importantly, they also need to be able to think on their feet as the gorge country to the east and the mountainous areas north of Armidale can be difficult ground with a lot of properties to get to."

"I've also known it to snow in July and August and that means that our Census Collectors have to be resilient and resourceful," Mr Rapley adds.

Mr Rapley understands the importance of an accurate Census count.

"Information collected in the Census is essential to help decision makers and our community plan for the future.

Census Collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September 2011.

Applications are open from 9 April until 5 May. Apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call 1800 420 182.
