2011 Census - there's still time

15 August 2011 |WA/50

When it comes to your Census form, it’s better late than never.

One week after Census night, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is encouraging people to have their completed form ready to be collected.

WA Census Director, Mike Scott, says everyone who chose to fill in the traditional paper Census form should have it completed and ready when their Collector calls.

“There’s no penalty for completing your Census form late, as long as you do it accurately,” Mr Scott says.

“If you haven’t completed a Census form, please fill it out as soon as possible and answer the questions as if it were Census night.”

Mr Scott says Census Collectors have begun returning to households to collect the Census form.

“If they haven’t done so already, Collectors will be knocking on your door until 28 August 2011 to collect your completed paper form, so have it ready for when they visit” Mr Scott adds.

Mr Scott says all households need to take precautions to protect their privacy.

“Your Census form contains personal, confidential information. You would never leave your bank details unattended on your front step, so please don’t leave your completed Census form outside.”

All genuine ABS Census Collectors will be wearing visible photo identification and carrying highly visible yellow satchels when they collect completed Census forms. Census Collectors do not contact households by telephone to ask you to answer questions.
