330 Census Collectors hit the streets of the Inner West

29 July 2011 | NSW/63

330 Census Collectors will hit the streets of the Inner West today to deliver Census forms to each and every household and apartment in the area to ensure every person is accurately counted on Census night, Tuesday, 9 August.

Joining the Census team this year for the first time, Scarlett Crawford and her sister Harriet are new residents of Rozelle.

"My sister and I moved here from Moree in regional NSW so we are both really enjoying the diversity of people and culture in the Inner West.

"I moved here to study environmental science at the University of Sydney. I'm particularly passionate about how good Census information is important for the planning of environmental services in our community."

Scarlett is enjoying the alternative atmosphere of the Inner West and the great mix of people, but there are some challenges she will need to tackle.

"With so many residents living busy lifestyles, Collectors will be working flexible hours in the early evenings and weekends so that we can catch people at home," Scarlett says.

"Being such a friendly area we expect people to be very willing and understanding of the importance of the Census."

This year is the second time that people can use the eCensus option and Scarlett believes that most local residents will jump online.

“The eCensus is really convenient and easy to use. I expect that for most residents the eCensus is their best option because it is fast and simple."

"Choosing the eCensus also means that your Census Collector won't need to return to your home to pick up your completed form."
