2011 Census - One month to go!

9 July 2011 | NSW/35

One month out from Census night, Tuesday 9 August, 2011, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is ready to complete Australia’s largest ever peace time logistical operation.

New South Wales Census Director, Mark Harding says the Census will shed some light on every community in Australia.

“The Census lights the way forward for planning infrastructure and services that you use every day - like roads, schools, hospitals and public transport,” Mr Harding says.

"The Census gives the ABS an important snapshot of the nation, but it’s not just the Government that uses the information that’s captured on Census night.

“Charities, big and small businesses, community organisations, students and researchers all use Census data every day,” Mr Harding adds.

From 29 July an army of 8,200 Census Collectors will pound the pavement to deliver more than four million Census forms to NSW’s 3.1 million households.

"Everyone in Australia on Census night needs to complete the Census and this year they can complete the Census online using eCensus or fill in the traditional paper form," Mr Harding says.

"Your Census Collector will provide all the information you need to participate and help create a brighter future for your community."
