Long-term Health Conditions
Diabetes Diabetes (including high sugar levels) continues to be a significant health issue among Indigenous Australians, affecting 6% of the Indigenous population in 2004–05.
After adjusting for age differences between Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations, Indigenous people were over three times more likely to report having some form of diabetes than non–Indigenous people.
In both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, prevalence of diabetes increased with age (increasing markedly from around 35 years onwards.)
