For Career Advisors
 | There is an emerging shortage of statisticians in Australia. A statistical career can be rewarding and exciting and the ABS hopes to encourage students, particularly those with an interest and ability in maths, to pursue tertiary studies that may lead to a career in statistics. |
A degree in statistics opens up a very wide range of career possibilities. It is an ideal choice for students who want to keep their career options open as long as possible.

Resources for Students
 | Students wishing to learn more about a career in statistics should be referred to the Careers page in our For Students section. This page provides a broad overview of what is involved in becoming a statistician, including the personal attributes and qualifications required. Students can also view the interactive Statistics Career Wheel showing the diversity of career options open to graduates who study statistics. |
The ABS Careers pages are a good place for students to learn more about the various roles within Australia's leading statistical organisation. Of particular interest will be the Graduate pages as they provide information for tertiary students about the ABS Graduate Program, Vacation Employment, Cadetship and Scholarships.
The Statistical Society of Australia seeks to further the study, application and good practice of statistical theory and methods in all branches of learning and enterprise. This website provides links to useful careers and employment information.
