Just under one in five Australians has a disability.

The 2012 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers found the disability prevalence rate remained steady at 18.5% or 4.2 million people.

There were 2.7 million people in Australia providing informal care to an older person or someone with a disability or long-term health condition.
