4528.0 Personal Fraud, 2010-11
This publication presents results from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Personal Fraud Survey, conducted throughout Australia from July 2010 to June 2011 as part of the 2010-11 Multi-Purpose Household Survey (MPHS). Topics in the survey are identity fraud, including credit, debit or bank card fraud and identity theft, and a selected range of scams. The publication includes information about the characteristics of the most recent incidents of personal frauds, and demographic details of victims and non-victims.

4513.0 Criminal Courts, Australia, 2010-11
This publication presents nationally comparable statistics relating to the criminal jurisdiction of the Higher (Supreme and Intermediate), Magistrates' and Children's Courts across Australia for the period 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011. The statistics describe the characteristics of defendants, including information on the offences and sentences associated with those defendants.

4530.0 Crime Victimisation, Australia, 2010-11
This publication presents results from the Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) national Crime Victimisation Survey, conducted from July 2010 to June 2011 using the ABS Multipurpose Household Survey (MPHS). The survey collected data about the people's experience of crime victimisation for a selected range of personal and household offences. The survey also collected data about whether victims reported these incidents to police, characteristics of victims and characteristics of their most recent incident, and people's perceptions of social disorder in their local area.

4519.0 Recorded Victims - Offenders, 2010-11
This publication presents statistics relating to offenders who were proceeded against by police during the period 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011, for all states and territories. These statistics describe the characteristics of offenders, including the principle offence for which offenders were proceeded against.

4524.0 – In Focus: Crime and Justice Statistics, December 2011
This publication presents analysis and commentary on a range of topics using ABS Crime and Justice statistical sources. The December release provides a detailed analysis of the perception of social disorder issues in Australia.

4533.0 - Directory of Family and Domestic Violence Statistics
The Directory is a new on-line reference tool, designed to improve community awareness of statistical information in this field by providing a single multi-disciplinary reference point for information about data sources across the health, welfare, family and community services and crime and justice sectors. The Directory contains detailed information about many sources of Australian and State / Territory government statistical data relating to Family and Domestic Violence, including the collection methodology, data items available, contact details for obtaining data and hyperlinks to publications.

4512.0 Corrective Services, Australia, December 2011
This publication contains national information about persons in adult custody and community-based corrections in Australia. Quarterly information is presented for each state and territory. Information available includes: sex; age; imprisonment rates; legal status (sentenced, unsentenced); type of custody (secure, open); sentenced receptions; federal prisoners and type of community-based corrective services orders. Indigenous data are also available.


4517.0 Prisoners in Australia, 2011
This publication presents information from the National Prisoner Census about persons held in Australian prisons on the night of 30 June 2011. The National Prisoner Census covers all prisoners in the legal custody of adult corrective services in adult prisons. These statistics provide a profile of the legal status and sentence details as well as demographic characteristics of Australian adult prisoners.

Australia

There were 17,757 victims of sexual assault recorded by police, 25% of these victims were aged 10 to 14 years. [1]

More than a third (34%) of federal defendants had a principal (federal) offence of fraud, deception and related offences. [2]

The most common principal offences for male offenders were public order offences and acts intended to cause injury (20% and 19% respectively); for female offenders it was theft (30%). [3]

Traffic offences are the most common offence type in the Magistrates' Courts, accounting for 43% of all defendants. [4]

The most serious offence or charge for nearly 1 in 5 prisoners in custody was acts intending to cause injury (5,805 prisoners). [5]

The ABS Crime Victimisation Survey 2010-11 found that most victims of physical and face-to face threatened assault in 2010-11 felt that alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in their most recent incident. [6]
