Creating an ABS Survey Account - FAQs

What is the ABS Survey Account?

The ABS Survey Account is a fast, simple and secure service that allows you to access and submit your survey form online. It also allows businesses and organisations to safely and securely reallocate their survey form to a colleague for completion.

Do I need to create an ABS Survey Account?

Yes, if you have been asked by the ABS to create an ABS Survey Account, this is the only way to complete your survey form online.

How do I create an ABS Survey Account?

To create your survey account, select 'Create' on the log in page. This will direct you to the ABS Survey Account creation page. Here, you will need to provide an email address, a mobile phone number and create a password. Upon continuing you will be asked to validate your email address by entering a code that we send to you by email. You may also provide your name for use in future correspondence from the ABS.

Why do I need to provide a mobile phone number?

The mobile phone number you provide during the account creation process allows you to reset your password if you forget it. We won't call you on this number without your consent.

What do I do if I don't have a mobile number?
If you don't have a mobile number, please contact us for assistance.

Do I need to provide my name during account creation?
Providing your name is optional. The ABS may use your name in correspondence we send you regarding your ABS survey forms.

Can I change my password?
The ABS Survey Account allows you to change your password when you are logged into your ABS Survey Account by following the 'Account Settings' link at the top of the page.

Can I change my email address?
The ABS Survey Account allows you to change your email address when you are logged into your ABS Survey Account by following the 'Account Settings' link at the top of the page.

Can I change my mobile phone number?
The ABS Survey Account allows you to change your mobile phone number when you are logged into your ABS Survey Account by following the 'Account Settings' link at the top of the page.

I have changed my mind about providing my name. Can I add or remove it from my ABS Survey Account?
You are able to add or remove your name in your ABS Survey Account. This can be done when you are logged into your ABS Survey Account by following the 'Account Settings' link at the top of the page.

What do I do if I have forgotten my password?

If you forget your password, you can use the 'Forgot your password?' link on the log in page to reset your password using the email address and mobile phone number you provided to create your ABS Survey Account.

I am having difficulty creating my ABS Survey Account
If you are having difficulty creating an ABS Survey Account, it may be because you are using an older browser which does not fully support HTML 5 (for example, versions of Internet Explorer prior to Internet Explorer 9). Please try an alternative browser or update your browser to the latest version. The ABS recommends using modern browsers such as Internet Explorer 11 (or later), Chrome 43 (or later), Safari 8 (or later) or Firefox 35 (or later).

I tried to set up my ABS Survey Account but I haven't received an email. What do I do?
If your confirmation email does not appear in your inbox, please check your spam or junk mail. Although we have taken measures to ensure the emails get through, occasionally they may be blocked by your email service. If you still cannot see an email from the ABS after 10 minutes, you can start the process again to ensure all details have been entered correctly. If you are still having problems setting up your account, please contact us.

Accessing, completing and submitting your survey form online - FAQs

How do I log in to access my survey form?

  • If you have been asked by the ABS to create an ABS Survey Account, you can do this by following the account creation link on the log in page. After you create an account you will be able to log in and access your survey form.
  • If you have received a letter or instructions from the ABS with a User Identifier and a Password, you can access your survey by entering them on the log in page.
  • If you are having trouble accessing your survey with the details provided to you by the ABS please contact us.

How do I access my survey form using my ABS Survey Account?
Once you have created your ABS Survey Account, you can access your survey form by entering your Form Access Code. This is the code provided in the box on the right hand side of the accompanying letter. The Form Access Code needs to be entered into the box that you see once you have logged in to your account.

Once you have entered your code select 'Add Code' which will add your survey form. You will only need to enter the Form Access Code once. After the survey form has been added, you can complete the survey form by selecting 'Open Form.'

What is a Form Access Code?
A Form Access Code is what links your survey form to your ABS Survey Account.

Where do I find my Form Access Code?

Your Form Access Code is usually listed in a box on the right hand side of the letter we sent you. If you have lost your letter, please contact us.

Where do I enter my Form Access Code?

To enter your Form Access Code you first need to log in to your ABS Survey Account. You can then enter your code into the box labelled 'Form Access Code' on the main page of your ABS Survey Account. This enables you to access and complete your survey form.

When I enter my Form Access Code it says it's already been claimed. What do I do?
You are only required to enter your Form Access Code once, after this you can access your survey in the 'Your Survey Forms' section. If this is the first time you are entering your Form Access Code and you receive a message saying it has already been claimed, please contact us.

What is my User Identifier?
If you received a User Identifier, it can be used for a single session so that you can complete a short survey or provide further contact details as required. If you are required to provide contact details, an ABS Household Interviewer will contact you to arrange a convenient time to visit and complete your survey.

Can I change my User Identifier?

The ABS has provided you with a User Identifier and a Password so you can access the ABS Survey Account for a single use session. If you require access for more sessions you will need to create an ABS Survey Account using your email address and mobile number.

Am I able to complete my survey form in multiple sessions?

If you have set up an ABS Survey Account using your email address and mobile phone, you can use as many sessions as you need to complete your form.

If you need to leave your form before it has been completed, you can save your responses and return to the form later. After saving and exiting your form you will be able to return to it by logging into your ABS Survey Account and clicking the 'Open Form' button.

How do I know if my completed survey form has been received by the ABS?

Once you have completed and submitted your form, the final page will include a confirmation message that you can print or save. Also, shortly after submitting your form, the updated form status can be viewed in the 'Completed Forms' section of your ABS Survey Account.

I have completed my survey form but the status hasn't updated. What do I do?

If you have recently completed a form, the status may be out of date. To ensure you are viewing the correct form status you can click the 'Update Form Status' button above 'Your Forms.'

Can I give someone else access to my survey form?
Functionality exists within the ABS Survey Account to reallocate survey forms to another person within a business or organisation. Although the survey form can only be accessed by one person at a time, there is no limit to how many times it can be reallocated.

How do I give someone else access to my survey form?
Once you have entered the Form Access Code and the survey form appears in the 'Your Forms' section, you can view further information on how to pass the survey form onto another person. To view this information simply click the 'Reallocate Form' button.

If I give someone else access to my survey form, will my responses be saved?
Yes, so long as you have saved and exited the survey form before you reallocate it to someone else.

What should I do if I cannot access my survey form online?
Although we have endeavoured to provide a service that can handle high internet traffic, our web forms sometimes experiences technical issues. If you experience difficulties you can try:
  • Saving and exiting your survey form and closing your internet browser. You can then open a new browser window and try logging back in.
  • Saving and exiting your survey form and coming back another time. As problems can be due to high traffic, trying to log in at a different time may help.
  • If you still have problems please contact us and someone will be able to assist you.

I have submitted my form but I received a reminder letter. Why?
If you have received a reminder letter for a form you have already submitted it could be due to a number of reasons:
  • If you recently completed the survey, the letter may have been sent prior to you submitting the form. If this is the case you do not need to take any further action.
  • You might like to check if the reminder you have received is for the same survey form you submitted. Often ABS surveys run for multiple cycles, or you may be asked to respond to more than one survey at any given time.
  • Once you have finished a survey form you need you select 'Submit' or 'Register' on the last page. If you have an ABS Survey Account, you can check this has been done by logging in and checking that your form is in the 'Completed Forms' section. If the form status is 'In Progress' you can select 'Open Form' and ensure the survey form has been correctly submitted.
  • If you are still unsure if your form has been submitted and received by the ABS, or you receive another reminder letter, please contact us.

What should I do if I am having problems viewing the survey form or moving to the next question?
If your form is not displaying correctly or you are having trouble moving to the next screen it may be because you do not have JavaScript enabled in your web browser. This is most common for earlier versions of web browsers. In most instances, JavaScript can be enabled in 'Options', under the 'Tools' menu. If you need assistance, please consult the 'Help' menu in your web browser.

ABS surveys are optimised for a minimum screen resolution of 800x600, as such you may have problems accessing your survey on a mobile device. For ideal performance complete the form on a desktop or laptop computer. If you are still having problems viewing your survey form, please contact us and someone will be able to assist you.
