Review of Australian Standard Classification of Occupation, First Edition, Revision 1

SCOPE OF REVIEW:

The ABS and Statistics New Zealand are undertaking a minor review of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) First Edition Revision 2.

The review is an update to ANZSCO to help ensure that it remains a contemporary reflection of the Australian and New Zealand labour markets without causing excessive disruption to data already classified to ANZSCO.

The focus of the update will be on the occupation (6-digit) level of the classification and can include the following:

  • Addition of new occupations
  • Splitting and merging of existing occupations
  • Addition or deletion of specialisations within occupations
  • Addition or deletion alternate titles within occupations
  • Revisions to principal titles of existing occupations (this can include revisions to the lead statement, where required)

Changes to major groups, sub-major groups and minor groups will not be considered during this review.
NOTE: Additions or deletions of the current 5 Skill Levels are out of the scope of the review

Useful information on definitions can be found from the ABS website

Only issues within the scope of this update will be considered at this time. Issues within the scope of the update will be assessed against statistical considerations (including being widely and consistently reported in response to questions which can reasonably be asked in statistical collections) and prioritised accordingly. Requests for changes not implemented will be noted for consideration at future reviews.

    TIME FRAME OF UPDATE:

The ABS is currently compiling a list of possible changes to be incorporated in the update. It is expected that the research/consultation phase will be finalised by December 2012 and published in April 2013.
