The Western Australian State Supplementary Survey is a household survey conducted in October each year as a supplement to the Monthly Population Survey. Each year, Western Australian State Government agencies are invited to nominate a topic which is selected by the Statistical Policy Committee, comprising both State government and ABS representatives.
Supplementary surveys use the 'Any Responsible Adult' (ARA) methodology. That is, the first responsible adult contacted by the interviewer is asked the survey questions on behalf of all people in the household. Approximately 85% of the sample is interviewed by telephone and the remaining 15% face-to-face. The information collected can relate to personal, family, household or dwelling characteristics, although surveys are usually household based.
