NATIONAL STATISTICAL SERVICE
The National Statistical Service (NSS) is an initiative which supports a whole of government approach to the management of statistical information. Its aim is to increase the range of good quality statistical information available for decision making, and to forge statistical partnerships to share knowledge and expertise.
STATISTICAL CLEARING HOUSE (SCH)
The SCH is the central clearance point for all Australian government surveys involving 50 or more businesses. The purpose of the clearance process is to minimise the burden placed on businesses in completing Australian government surveys by eliminating duplication and ensuring that good practice is adhered to in designing and conducting business surveys.
STATE AND TERRITORY STATISTICAL SERVICE (STSS)
The State and Territory Statistical Service (STSS) leads the expansion of the National Statistical Service in the regions and provides a flexible and responsive service to meet priority statistical needs of State and Territory clients. Services available to Northern Territory (NT) clients include statistical consultancies (eg professional advice on survey design, data analysis and forms design) and training courses tailored to the specific needs of your organisation.
Recent projects supported by ABS:
- An inventory of NT Government data holdings;
- Regional Statistics publication quarterly release redesign;
- Identification of data sources for the NT Government's 'Territory 2030' plan;
- NT Mobility Project by Charles Darwin University's School for Social and Policy Research. This project explored why people move to the NT, why they stay, why they leave, and what might encourage people to stay longer. The findings will assist NT Government with policy and strategic planning directions and outcomes;
- NT Government/ABS collaborative Census research analysis program including relevant geographic concordance issues.

Topics such as population, environment, health, income and expenditure are covered in this publication. It contains current and historical data drawn from both the ABS and non-ABS sources.
The ABS NT office has undertaken a user review to determine the future content and direction of the publication. The new-look publication is now released quarterly as an electronic magazine. A combination of data cubes (spreadsheets), links to data sources and feature articles will be prepared each quarter and presented in an easy-to-access format concentrating on particular topics each quarter. The new-look publication is now available, Regional Statistics, Northern Territory.
