South Australia - Outposted ABS Officers

AN ABS STAFF MEMBER TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE AT YOUR WORKPLACE

Your organisation may have a need for short or medium term in-house statistical expertise. The ABS can provide ABS officers to assist with statistical projects in South Australian Government agencies.

The ABS Outposted
officer will have access to all the infrastructure and knowledge which has given the ABS its excellent reputation for quality statistics and advice over the last 100 years.

The ABS considers outposting benefits both state government and the ABS by:

  • providing an opportunity for the ABS to develop a better understanding of emerging policy issues and related statistical requirements of state government;
  • the promotion and implementation of statistical frameworks and standards that allow inter-agency comparisons and comparisons across states to be made;
  • the maintenance of professional relationships and engagement between ABS and host agencies.

    Recent projects have included:
  • Provision of advice and assistance in developing indicators for the South Australian Strategic Plan for the Department of the Premier and Cabinet;
  • Providing an assessment of data on preschool services for the Department of Education and Children's Services;
  • Preparation for and conduct of analysis of the Department of Health's databases for monitoring and evaluation purposes;
  • Preparation of Indigenous identification report for the Department of Health; and
  • Updating Local Government finance data collection forms for the Local Government Grants Commission.
