Create a Summary Table
You’ll need to have your PD sample Excel document open with Eye Colour worksheet on top. The best way to summarise categorical data is through using a summary table. We will now Create a Summary table for the data in the RANDOM SAMPLE on student’s eye colour.
To Create a Summary table for eye colour choose a location away from data sample.
Choose cell and type in meaningful heading (Eye colour).
Choose next cell along type in another meaningful heading (Number of students).
Under the heading Eye Colour enter eye colour from data list until all options are recorded
To make your summary table more attractive we can place a border around the table.
Select all Headings and cells that will eventually hold data you want in the table.
Go to ‘format’, select format cells, and then border; select line styles, click to outline, select line style, click inside, and go to line style. Press OK and save your file.
You should now have an easily identifiable summary table with border. We are now ready to begin to enter data in summary table.
