What is DataAnalyser?

Background

DataAnalyser is an online product produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) that enables users to perform complex analyses using ABS microdata datasets. This user guide provides support for DataAnalyser users.

DataAnalyser is a system that allows users to explore, manipulate, and analyse microdata while also ensuring the confidentiality and privacy of individuals. Outputs are confidentialised automatically using a process tailored for each query. By using a tailored approach to confidentialising output, the utility loss of outputs can be minimised while maintaining the high level of respondent confidentiality expected of ABS data. For more information, refer to the Confidentiality section of this guide.

The system provides a range of analysis techniques using families of models such as linear robust, binomial logistic and probit, multinomial and Poisson. Users can also tabulate, query and modify the datasets to explore and analyse the data.

Overview

The point-and-click interface of DataAnalyser allows users to perform exploratory data analysis, manipulate the data and perform regression analyses. This style of interface means that users don't require knowledge of statistical programming languages, such as SAS, SPSS, or R. DataAnalyser has the ability to perform several popular regression analyses as well as exploratory data analysis and data manipulation.
