Stats seeks numbers

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and a range of sponsors invite people of all ages to participate in the new ABS Fun Run at Lake Ginninderra at 12:30 on Tuesday 6 June 2000.

"We are looking to continue the trend of outstanding participation in the Fun Run," said Fun Run Committee Chair John Struik. "The run incorporates the Castles Shield Fun Run and will take place over a new distance and a new course.

"In the past the Fun Run has generated an enormous amount of interest in the community and the number of participants reflects this. It's a great day for entrants - from the serious competitor to those there to take in the scenery and soak up some winter sunshine with a brisk walk."

Entrants may run, walk or jog the 7km course on cyclepaths in parkland surrounding the lake. The Fun Run starts and finishes in John Knight Park, adjacent to Lake Ginninderra College.

"Proceeds from the run will be presented to the ACT Cancer Society who do such a great job for those touched by cancer in the ACT region. It really is a worthwhile cause and we are hoping for another strong turnout this year," Mr Struik said.

Trophies will be awarded for both individual and team efforts and there will be the chance to win great prizes, including travel supplied by QANTAS and accommodation at the Holiday Inn on Flinders Melbourne.

Entry forms are available on the Internet at http://tip.net.au/~dfry/ABSFUNRUN.htm, alternatively forms can be obtained from the ABS reception (Wing 5, Chandler St Belconnen), or by contacting Jenny Hawkins on 6252 7214, e-mail jenny.hawkins@abs.gov.au
