New ABS Regional Director for WA

Western Australia has a new Regional Director of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Michael Tindall takes over the post from Alan Hubbard, who has enjoyed a successful three year stint as Regional Director.

"The ABS has an important role in providing high quality statistics to the Western Australian Government and community. That information is vital to effective planning and development for the State," Mr Tindall said.

"With the State economy booming and the dynamic changes that are happening here, the quality and timeliness of information is more important than ever. I see my key role as ensuring that the Western Australia office continues to improve its delivery of those high quality statistics," he added.

"The ABS needs to be responsive to its clients and I am looking forward to taking all that I have learnt from being an extensive user of statistics and applying that knowledge to the ABS as a producer of statistics.

"The ABS also has a key role in developing statistical capability in the State. I will be looking at ways to improve access to statistics across Government as well as developing the capability of the regional office and the statistical community."

The rich and varied experience Michael brings to the role will serve the Western Australia community well.

Michael joined the ABS in November 2006 with a very strong background in public sector administration at both the Commonwealth and State levels. He spent 10 years in the Victorian Departments of the Premier and Cabinet and Business, and 10 years in the Australian Trade Commission including a stint as Senior Trade Commissioner and Consul-General in Milan.
He recently completed a Master of Business Administration at the Australian National University and has been providing strategic business consultancy services to a range of commonwealth and state government departments and private sector organisations.
