All your questions about Australia answered online

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has today updated its online information package about the nation "Australia Now - A Statistical Profile". Located on the ABS web site, Australia Now presents detailed statistics about Australia's economy and social conditions. It also serves as a directory to other ABS statistics and contains descriptive information about Australia's government, international relations, defence, geography and climate.

It now contains most of the latest information available from the 2000 Yearbook Australia, (released 25 January) plus:
  • special articles from past yearbooks dating back to 1908;
  • feature articles from other relevant ABS publications;
  • links to related topics;
  • links to related web sites located in the bibliography section of most chapters; and
  • a chapter on population which includes Australia's Population Clock and a link to a world population clock at the US Census Bureau.

"Australia Now - A Statistical Profile" offers a full text search facility and is constructed to allow for easy user navigation.

The ABS web site itself is one of the most popular government internet sites. It presents a wide range and variety of authoritative statistical information about Australia and is an important point of access by the community to official statistics. It is supplemented by ABS bookshops in capital cities, telephone inquiry services and ABS publications and CD-ROM products held by public libraries throughout Australia.

The ABS encourages media with online services to link to this facility. Please phone us if you need assistance to do this.

If you wish to purchase a copy of this publication telephone 02 6252 5249.
