Fun run event to raise funds for cancer this Thursday: ABS

Canberrans are invited to join the fight against cancer and participate in the annual Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Centenary Fun Run on this Thursday 19 May.

This year's run is part of the ABS's 100th birthday celebrations.

The Fun Run is in support of the ACT Cancer Council, with proceeds helping to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer in the ACT. Last year almost 700 ACT runners and walkers raised $3,000 for this worthy cause.

The event is set to kick off at 12.30pm in John Knight Park Belconnen, with entrants to jog 7 km or walk 6 km on a course through parkland around Lake Ginninderra.

The Fun Run is set to be bigger and better than ever, with new sponsors coming on-board to offer a swag of prizes from the barrel draw. This year's highlights include:
  • $700 worth of Belconnen Westfield gift vouchers
  • a DVD/VCR recorder from Belconnen JB Hi-Fi
  • one night accommodation in Melbourne
  • one week accommodation in Mallacoota, Victoria
  • a reef fishing trip at Mossy Point.
Entry is $5 per adult and $2 for students and concessions with entry forms available from ABS House reception or the following web site: http://www.lunchstakes.webathletics.com.au/absfunrun/about.htm.

Individual entries are accepted on the day but will be subject to the organisers’ capacity to process the entry.

Our major sponsor this year is Belconnen Westfield. Other sponsors include:
JB Hi-Fi, Mallamaurice FSC Holiday Units, Inter-Continental Hotels, Deep Water Fishing Charters, ABS Social Club, Runners Shop, Pirion Printers, Calypso Coffee Lounge, Video Ezy, The Lighthouse, Privileges Card, Dan Murphy's, Instant Colour Press, Jigsaw, Qantas, and the Canberra Labor Club.
