Launch Event For Key Report on Indigenous Health and Welfare:
Sydney , 11.00am Tomorrow, Thursday 30 August

REMINDER: The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) will launch the publication The Health and Welfare of Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, 2001 at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney at 11.00 am tomorrow, Thursday 30 August.

The launch will be performed by the Director-General, NSW Health Department, Mr Michael Reid, who chairs the National Advisory Group, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Information and Data. Mr Reid will hand the report to Ms Barbara Flick, a Member of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Council.

The publication, a joint venture between the ABS and AIHW, provides a comprehensive statistical overview, largely at the national level, of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and welfare. Among the topics included are: mortality; ill health; risk factors; access to, and use of, services; and recent developments in health and welfare information.

The launch will be held at the Target Theatre in the Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris Street, Ultimo, starting at 11.00 am (guests assemble at 10.45).

A light lunch will be provided afterwards, and guests will be offered a guided tour of the Museum’s Contemporary Indigenous Communication (Bayagul) exhibition.

Copies of the embargoed report will be available to media at the conclusion of the launch.
