SOCIAL ATLASES TO BE LAUNCHED ON MONDAY

The 2006 Census Social Atlas series will be launched by the Assistant Treasurer, the Hon. Chris Bowen MP in a ceremony at Parliament House Canberra, on Monday 17 March, 2008 at 11.30am (AEDT).

The maps are easy to interpret and are accompanied by a brief commentary explaining main features and characteristics.

The Atlases provide a primary source of information used by a wide range of business and government organisations in planning for Australia's future.

The Social Atlas' use of easy to read thematic maps of capital cities, featuring new analysis of 2006 Census data, makes data easier to interpret and provides the groundwork for a wide variety of stories on current and emerging issues. A wide range of topics are covered relating to:

  • Population
  • Cultural diversity
  • Work
  • Housing
  • Families
  • Education and training
  • Economic resources

Please Note: Coverage of the Atlases has been expanded, and for the first time, includes maps for some major regional centres in addition to capital cities:

  • Sydney Also includes Wollongong, Newcastle and Central Coast
  • Melbourne Also includes Geelong
  • Brisbane Also includes the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast
  • Adelaide Also includes Mount Gambier and Whyalla
