Online is the easiest way to complete the Census test

The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ (ABS) is reminding people selected to participate in the Census field test in Western Australia that the online form is the most convenient way to complete the Census test.

Households selected to participate in the Census field test can access the online form by following the instructions provided in the ABS letter addressed ‘To The Resident’ using the unique form ID and passcode.

ABS Western Australia Regional Director, Tom Joseph encouraged everyone selected to participate in the Census field test to complete the test online on Census test night, Tuesday, 5 August 2014.

“The online form is fast, easy, secure and an environmentally friendly way to complete the Census test,” Mr Joseph said.

“It can be completed wherever you can access the internet – whether it’s on desktop, laptop, tablet or a mobile device. You can use a dial-up, broadband, mobile or wireless internet connection. Online help is also available.

Mr Joseph said new delivery and collection procedures being trialled in the field test aimed to increase online participation in the next Census in 2016.

“The ABS is changing the way it conducts the Census,” Mr Joseph said.

“We anticipate more than 65 per cent of Australian households will complete the Census online in 2016.

“The online form has undergone rigorous testing to ensure privacy is protected by strong encryption technology. The level of security is similar to that for internet banking, which is used by millions of Australians every day.

“An added advantage of completing the test online, you won’t have a Census Field Officer knocking on your door to follow up.”

All information provided is kept secure and confidential to the ABS. No information is released in a way that can identify any particular individual or household.

Households can opt-out by contacting the Census Inquiry Service on 1800 138 756 Monday to Friday, between 8am and 6pm (local time), or notify a Census Field Officer when they visit the household.
