PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) is a hierarchical classification system of geographical areas and consists of a series of interrelated structures. It provides a framework of statistical geography and enables the production of statistics which are comparable between levels.

This product consists of 2 CD-ROMs.

Volume 1 contains digital ASGC Main Structure and pre-ASGC boundaries for 1981 to 1995. The boundaries are available for 1981, 1986, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995. The boundaries for 1992 onwards contain Statistical Local Areas, Statistical Subdivisions, Statistical Divisions and States/Territories only. The 1981, 1986 and 1991 boundaries also include Census Collection Districts.

Volume 2 contains digital boundaries for the ASGC Editions 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. The product includes Statistical Local Area, Statistical Subdivision, Statistical Division, Local Government Area, Statistical District, Statistical Region, Major Statistical Region and State boundaries. It also includes Census Collection Districts, Sections of State and Urban Centres and Localities for 1996, which are only defined in the census year.

The digital boundaries are supplied in MapInfo Interchange format (.mid/.mif) and are based upon the Australian Geodetic Datum 1966 (AGD66).
