Purpose
To provide accurate comparative urban data on transport and land use patterns in cities around the world, including for later years, economic and environmental data.

Description
The database was developed to understand the patterns of automobile dependence around the world and to provide a reliable source of urban data for policy analysis and further research.

Data was collected from government agencies in 46 cities in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia for 1960, 1970, 1980, and 1990.

A new research methodology will extend the number of cities to 100 in the developed and developing countries and will also expand the breadth of data variables collected. This project is being funded by the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) in Brussels and is scheduled for completion in April 1999.

Data Detail

  • Private transport/transport infrastructure;
