Purpose
To collect data on the demand (usage) of information and communication technology goods and services by business enterprises.

Description
The information from the survey will enable Australian and State governments to plan for the development of an effective Information Technology and Telecommunications (IT&T) industry in Australia. Approximately 8,500 businesses were selected from the ABS Register of Businesses for the survey.

Data are collected by mail questionnaire.

Data Detail

  • IT&T penetration by industry, by size;
  • IT&T expenditure by industry;
  • Computing equipment installed by industry;
  • IT&T staff usage by type of work and industry;
  • IT&T operating expenses by type of expense and industry;
  • IT&T in-house support costs by type of cost and industry; and
  • IT&T performance ratios by industry and size.

    Data are available for the above items for transport and storage industry.

    Geographic Coverage
    Australia.

    Frequency of Data Availability
    Data are released biennially.

    Historical Data
    The first survey was conducted in 1993-94.
