The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is Australia’s national statistical agency. The quality, integrity and relevance of our statistics are critical to informing effective decision making and supporting public debate.

This document describes the program of work we plan to undertake from 2014-15 to 2017-18. It includes a description of key goals and strategies and describes, for each sub-program, our objectives, outputs and key developments.

Budget constraints have necessitated some changes to our program. The section “How the ABS Work Program is Determined” describes the approach we take to ensure that resources are applied to deliver maximum benefit through a well-balanced program.

What has not changed is our commitment to ABS values. The ABS will continue to uphold its position as a trusted and independent provider of information for Australia. We will maintain the confidentiality of the individuals and businesses whose information we collect while striving to make our statistics as accessible and useful as possible.

Efforts to transform how we collect, manage and deliver information continue to be a priority. It is only through constant innovation that we will be able to remain relevant and continue to provide a world-class statistical service for the benefit of all Australians.
