  • The area of farms in Australia increased in 2010-11, by 3% to 409.7 million hectares over the previous year, reversing the trend of decline established in recent years.
  • The area planted to crops in Australia also rose, up by 24% in 2010-11 to 32.1 million hectares.
  • Approximately 53% of Australia's total land area was used for agriculture. On a state basis, Tasmania had the smallest proportion of farm land (24% of state area) while the highest was in Queensland (81% of state area).
