TRANSITION FROM EDUCATION TO WORK

COMPLETING A NON-SCHOOL COURSE OF STUDY

In May 2012, there were 1.1 million people aged 15–64 years who had completed the non-school qualification in which they were enrolled in 2011. These people were more likely to be employed in May 2012 than the rest of the population (82% compared with 75%). (Tables 10 and 16)

SCHOOL LEAVERS

There were 341,600 people aged 15–24 years who were enrolled in secondary school in 2011 but were not in May 2012. Of these school leavers, 74% had completed Year 12 and 60% were enrolled in study in 2012. In 2012, 24% of school leavers were employed and not studying. 7% were unemployed and not studying, with a further 9% not in the labour force and not studying. (Table 19)
