UPCOMING RELEASE OF MIGRATION, AUSTRALIA, 2009-2010 (CAT. NO. 3412.0)

The annual publication, Migration, Australia, 2009-10 (cat.no. 3412.0) is scheduled to be released on 16 June 2011. This publication brings together statistics on international migration into and out of Australia, internal migration (including interstate and intrastate) within Australia and information on overseas-born residents of Australia. Chapters include: Migration in Context; Net Overseas Migration; Australia's Diverse Population; and Interstate Migration.

The publication also includes a Feature Article - International Students, Net Overseas Migration and Australia's Population Growth. This Feature Article explores the contribution that Student visa holders have made to Net Overseas Migration, and therefore, Estimated Resident Population in recent years. It examines characteristics including age, sex, state and territory, student visa subclass and country of birth.

New data available

Interstate migration data:

  • Annual time series data will be updated for interstate migration by arrivals, departures, state/territory, age and sex from 1997 to 2010 and will be available electronically as a datacube (in Supertable format) from the Downloads tab of Migration, Australia, 2009-10 (cat. no. 3412.0) on the ABS web site from 23 June 2011.
  • This datacube is scheduled to be updated every six months when financial year and calendar year data becomes available.

Net overseas migration data:
  • Annual time series data will be updated for NOM by arrivals, departures, state/territory, age and sex from 2004 to 2010, based on the improved methodology, and will be available electronically as a datacube (in Supertable format) from the Downloads tab of Migration, Australia, 2009-10 (cat. no. 3412.0) on the ABS web site from 23 June 2011.
  • This datacube is scheduled to be updated every six months when financial year and calendar year data becomes available.
