The ABS produces a publication called Water Use on Australian Farms, 2010-11 (cat. no. 4618.0) which presents estimates of agricultural water use, including pastures and crops irrigated, irrigation water sources, irrigation water management and water-related responses to adverse seasonal conditions.

Estimates about water use on Australian farms were collected as part of the 2010-11 Agricultural Census.

June 2012 saw the release of the following tables (and summary comments) in PDF and data cube (spreadsheet) format:

  • Agricultural Water Use
  • Irrigation Activity
  • Pastures and Crops Irrigated
  • Sources of Agricultural Water

Geographies released included state and territory, Australia, Murray-Darling Basin and Non-Murray-Darling Basin.

To access the data, go to the publication, Water Use on Australian Farms, 2010-11 (cat. no. 4618.0) and click on the Downloads tab. The data is found under the Data Cubes title.
