DATA ITEMS LIST

A complete list of all data items included in the 2012 PSS is available in the Downloads tab. This includes data item names, response categories, and their relevant population. The spreadsheet has 12 worksheets containing the following information:

    • Contents page
    • Index page
    • Person data items (this includes information about the respondent, their partner (where applicable), and the household)
    • Aggregate data items (summary aggregated information based on data from each level - designed for use in the production of simple cross-tabulations)
    • Violence - Prevalence data items
    • Violence - Prevalence since age 15 data items
    • Violence - Most recent incident data items
    • Violence - Partner data items
    • Emotional abuse by a partner data items
    • Abuse before the age of 15 data items
    • Sexual harassment data items
    • Stalking data items

Not all information collected in the survey is contained on the CURF: some data items on the CURF have reduced detail while others have not been released at all. However, in most cases the CURF contains the full version of data items. Where it was necessary to reduce the amount of detailed released on the CURF, the Data Items list notes the CURF version of the data items and their reduced response/classification categories. Where items are not released on the CURF, these are noted in the Data Items list as 'Not released on the CURF'.

Users of the microdata should also refer to the Personal Safety, Australia: User Guide (cat. no. 4906.0.55.003) for more information to assist in using the survey data, including concepts, definitions, methodology, data collection and processing, final sample sizes, and estimation and analysis techniques. In particular, to ensure that the required data, and level of detail are available in this product prior to purchase, users should refer to the information contained in the following sections: Information Collected, Survey Definitions and Interpretation of Results in the PSS 2012 Users Guide.

Subject to the limitations of sample size, the data classifications used, and the conditions of use, it is possible to interrogate the CURF data, produce tabulations and undertake statistical analyses to individual specifications.

Where information is not available on the CURF (due to data items being removed or only showing reduced response categories), special tabulations or other analytic outputs may be able to be produced, on a fee for service basis, incorporating data items, populations and geographic areas selected to meet individual requirements. These are subject to confidentiality and sampling variability constraints.
