SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS

In trend terms, short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during March 2018 (761,800 movements) increased 0.4% when compared with February 2018 (758,700 movements). Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 5.3% higher than in March 2017.

The following table presents the top ten source countries (based on original estimates) for short-term visitor arrivals during March 2018. When trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals for March 2017 and March 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for India (19.7%), followed by Hong Kong (10.7%) and China (6.8%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Malaysia (-1.9%) and Singapore (-0.6%).

SHORT-TERM RESIDENT RETURNS

In trend terms, short-term resident returns to Australia during March 2018 (893,900 movements) increased 0.3% when compared with February 2018 (891,300 movements). Currently, short-term resident returns are 1.7% higher than in March 2017.

The following table presents the top ten destination countries (based on original estimates) for short-term resident returns in March 2018. When trend estimates for short-term resident returns for March 2017 and March 2018 were compared, the highest percentage increases were recorded for Japan (13.9%), followed by India (11.3%) and Vietnam (10.9%). The highest percentage decreases were recorded for Singapore (-6.1%), New Zealand (-2.9%) and the United States of America (-2.3%).
