HIGH CENSUS NIGHT RATIOS, NEW SOUTH WALES


In addition to Snowy River, which had the highest Census Night ratio in Australia, three other LGAs in New South Wales had high Census Night ratios. Two of these, Bourke and Central Darling, were mainly agricultural areas. Sydney had a Census Night ratio of 116 people per 100 usual residents.

The population pyramid below shows the age and sex of the Census Night and usual resident populations in Snowy River in 2011. Among the usual residents, the population was fairly evenly spread across the different age groups, although there were slightly more males aged 15-19 and people of both sexes aged between 35 and 54 years. Although the size of the Census Night population was much larger, its shape is similar: males and females aged 15-19 years made up the largest category, and there were similar numbers of males and females in the 35-54 year age groups.
