SCAMS

An estimated 6.3 million Australians aged 15 years and over were exposed to a scam in the 12 months prior to interview, approximately a third (35.8%) of the population aged 15 years and over. Of all people exposed to a scam, 8.1% (514,500) responded to the scam invitation, request, notification, or offer by accessing a website, asking for more information, or sending personal details or accepting an offer. This amounted to 2.9% of the Australian population aged 15 years and over experiencing a scam.

People that were more likely to be a victim of scam were those aged 25-55 years of age, married, employed, have a degree, diploma or other non-school qualification, earning a higher income, and have a higher household weekly income. People exposed to scams had similar characteristics to victims of scam, the only difference being that males were more likely to be exposed to scams then females.
