DESCRIPTION: This collection provides an overview of assistance given by government funded specialist homelessness agencies. National reports collected monthly and published on a financial year basis, including state and territory results. DEFINITION OF FAMILY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: 'Domestic/family violence' is defined as 'physical or emotional abuse inflicted on the client by a family member'. The AIHW collects unit record data from all government funded specialist homelessness services about clients for whom they provide services. Data are recorded by service providers (agencies) each month for the period during which the agency provides services to the client. Some data items require informed consent from the client to collect. SCOPE/TARGET POPULATION All people who access government funded specialist homelessness services. COVERAGE The 2011–12 Client Collection achieved a national agency participation rate of 90%. Across Australia, consent and valid statistical linkage keys were obtained from clients in 90% and 93% of records, respectively. DATA AVAILABILITY / DISSEMINATION Detailed publications and annual reports are produced. Additional data are available on request as a paid consultancy. Release of data must conform with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Act 1987. Data will not be released that may be used to identify an individual.
