NOTES

ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION

This publication presents national statistics on prisoners who were in adult corrective services custody on 30 June 2013. These statistics describe the characteristics of prisoners, their sentence length, the most serious offence/charge for which offenders are imprisoned, and provide a basis for measuring change over time.

REVISIONS TO NORTHERN TERRITORY AND AUSTRALIA ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER AND NON-INDIGENOUS IMPRISONMENT RATES

This release includes amendments to Northern Territory and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous imprisonment rates for 2009 to 2012.

These amendments are a result of correcting an error in the projected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population for females aged 20 to 24 in the Northern Territory used in the 2009 to 2012 Prisoners in Australia publications.

Amended cells are annotated as 'revised'.

ROUNDING

Discrepancies may occur between sums of component items and totals across tables and within some summary tables due to rounding and randomisation.
