SPIRITS AND READY TO DRINK (PRE-MIXED) BEVERAGES

The quantity of alcohol available for consumption in the form of spirits, including Ready to Drink (pre-mixed) beverages, increased gradually between 1960-61 and 2008-09, with some year to year fluctuations. In 1960-61, apparent per capita consumption of pure alcohol from spirits was 1.1 litres per person aged 15 years and over. By 2008-09 this had increased to 2.0 litres per person, making up around 20% of total per capita consumption of pure alcohol. Of this, around two-thirds were in the form of spirits only (1.3 litres per person) and one-third in the form of Ready to Drink (pre-mixed) beverages (0.7 litres per person).
