NAME OF COLLECTION

The Pregnancy and Employment Transitions Survey (PaETS)

OVERVIEW

The Pregnancy and Employment Transitions Survey (PaETS) was conducted for the first time in November 2005, as part of the Monthly Population Survey which also includes the Labour Force Survey. It collects information from women aged 15 years and over with a usually resident natural child under 2 years of age, on women's labour force characteristics and work experiences during pregnancy and after returning to paid work following the birth of a child.

The PaETS aims to inform research, and the development and evaluation of policies related to the family-work balance and maternity leave.

The survey collects information about the types and duration of leave taken by women and their partners for the birth of a child. Some data on experiences of work related discrimination associated with pregnancy are also collected in the survey. Data items collected within these are capable of being cross classified with Data Items Relevant to Migrants and Ethnicity.

The PaETS is expected to be conducted every 6 years.
