Upcoming ABS Statistical Training in South Australia

UPCOMING ABS STATISTICAL TRAINING IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

To assist in developing statistical expertise, the ABS can provide training courses to your staff. Our training programs are conducted by ABS staff with expertise in designing questionnaires, analysing data and managing the survey process. The courses teach practical skills by involving participants in individual and group exercises. In addition, courses can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation, for example using South Australia-specific information.

The ABS also provides regular seminars and information sessions which may focus on statistical developments, publications, trends or issues. The following training is currently scheduled for the SA office in the coming months:

Accessing ABS Information – Seminar
Date: 08/05/2008
Duration: 1.5 hours
Description: This seminar will increase participants' ability to access ABS on-line publications and free data from the ABS web site, (www.abs.gov.au) and from the Information Consultancies Container (ABS@). The container has unpublished data commissioned by the State Government and announcements and other content of interest to State Government users of ABS services.
Who should attend: State government employees who need to access ABS data.
Cost: Free

Turning Data into Information
Date: 04/06/2008-05/06/2008
Duration: 2 days
Description: This course develops skills in interpreting and analysing data and communicating information clearly and effectively. Analytical thinking skills are developed to enable the transformation of data into meaningful information such as written reports. A key theme of this course is analytical thinking to ensure relevant messages are extracted from data to meet set objectives. Covered in the course are:
- Understanding the issue and planning;
- Analysis tools and techniques; and
- Clearly presenting conclusions to an audience.
Who should attend: People working with data who wish to extract relevant information and communicate that information to a variety of audiences, eg through written reports.
Cost: $750 (inc. GST)
