Purpose
To provide road accident statistics for monitoring and developing road improvement strategies to reduce Victoria's road accidents.

Description
Road accident data are processed from Victoria Police road accident forms involving fatalities and injuries. Accident data are used to identify accident trends and black spot areas requiring remedial treatment.

Data Detail

  • Fatality;
  • Serious injury;
  • Other injury by vehicle;
  • Other injury by road user type; and
  • Other injury by road classification.

Geographic Coverage
Victoria, local government areas, metropolitan statistical divisions.

Frequency of Data Availability
Accidents are coded daily. There is a six to eight week delay between the time of accident and availability to users.

Historical Data
Data are available from 1986.
