In 2014-15 sales and service income in the Coal mining industry decreased by 6.4% to $45.9b. Falling sales were related to falling commodity prices, reflected in the 11.5% fall in the Coal mining subdivision Export Price Index between 2013-14 and 2014-15.

During 2014-15 total capital expenditure for the Coal mining industry was $6b, mainly comprising expenditure of $3.8b on plant, machinery and equipment and $1.5b on dwellings, other buildings and structures.
