Purpose
To determine the cost competitive gap between Australian and foreign shipping.

Description
The review of Australian and international shipping is undertaken on an on-going basis to determine the cost differential of various registrations. It involves Australian and international vessel attributes and provides an industry overview of costs not specific to a particular operator.

Data are collected by mail questionnaire and personal interview from approximately 20 organisations.

Data Detail

  • Capital costs;
  • Manning costs;
  • Crew to berth ratios;
  • Taxation measures; and
  • Operating costs (including fuel, port costs, stores, repair and maintenance, insurance, victualling and dry docking).

Geographic Coverage
Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Japan, USA, Singapore, South Korea, UK and Norway.

Frequency of Data Availability
Data release is irregular.

Historical Data
Data were collected in 1992, 1994 and 1998.
