CORRESPONDENCES (CONCORDANCES)

AVAILABILITY OF CORRESPONDENCES

The ABS will develop a suite of correspondences which will assist users in converting data from one geography to another. Correspondences between the ASGS and ASGC and the ABS Structures and Non-ABS Structures of the ASGS will be made available. These will be developed progressively from the first release of data from the 2011 Census in June 2012. There will be a large number of correspondences that could potentially be generated, so only the most widely used and reliable will be available on the ABS website. Other correspondences may also be available by emailing geography@abs.gov.au.

Population weighted correspondences will be produced using a new method based on Mesh Blocks. Details of this will be released in an information paper in December 2011. Area based correspondences will be available on request.

Some key correspondences that will be available include:

  • SLA to SA2/SA3/SA4;
  • SA1 to LGA;
  • SA2 to SLA/SSD/SD;
  • SA2 to LGA;
  • SA1 to Postal Area;
  • SA1 to Suburb/Locality;
  • SA1 to Commonwealth Electoral Division; and
  • SA2 to Remoteness Area.

For further information on correspondences, please email geography@abs.gov.au or follow the link to the ABS Geography web portal at https://www.abs.gov.au/geography.
