OVERVIEW
The collection of statistics for the Motion Picture Exhibition industry is planned to be undertaken three yearly as part of the wider Business Services Survey. The collection is a survey of employing businesses in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) class 9113 Motion Picture Exhibition.
PURPOSE
The collection was undertaken in response to user's need for financial information about the motion picture exhibition industry, to measure its size and structure on a regular basis, and its contribution to the Australian economy.
SCOPE
The collection was a survey of businesses and organisations mainly engaged in the motion picture exhibition industry. The scope of the collection was based on the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) class 9113 Motion Picture Exhibition; consisting of businesses/organisations mainly engaged in screening motion pictures on film or video tape.

Conceptual framework
The survey of Motion Picture Exhibitors is part of the larger Film, Video, Radio and Television Survey and is undertaken as part of the ABS program of annual economic surveys. The data items are consistent with Economic Activity Survey (EAS) specifications, and outputs provide key financial statistics in respect of ANZSIC 9113 and Australian National Accounts requirements.

- items of expenditure
- characteristics of employment
- selected statistics by income size groupings
- selected performance ratios
- various activity data such as number of paid admissions
Classifications
The ANZSIC class for Motion Picture Exhibition is 9113. This class consists of units mainly engaged in screening motion pictures on film or video tape.
The Motion Picture Exhibition Industry Survey collects data classified according the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC). Each business unit is classified to a single industry. The industry allocated is based on an estimate of the primary income earning activity of the management unit irrespective of whether a range of activities or a single activity is undertaken by the unit. Businesses were selected on the basis of their ANZSIC (9113) at the management unit level.
Data is available at the ANZSIC class level for ANZSIC 9113.
