Topics @ a Glance - Mortality

Mortality data are a key source of information on the health status of Australians.

Statistics on causes of death are a by-product of the administrative process by which registrars of births, deaths and marriages register deaths. The ABS compiles the statistics and codes causes of death using information from registrars and coroners, according to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth revision (ICD-10).

For information on all the ABS health collections, see the Health Topics @ a Glance page.
