RELEVANCE

Natural Resource Management on Australian Farms (ABS cat. no. 4620.0) presents information about the natural resource management practices of Australian agricultural businesses. The data includes information on weed, pest and land and soil management and the financial cost and effort associated with managing these types of problems.

TIMELINESS

Natural Resource Management on Australian Farms (ABS cat. no. 4620.0) is generally released within 12 months of the end of the reference period.

ACCURACY

Data from the 2006-07 Natural Resource Management Survey is based on a live response rate of 87% and has been extensively edited. The data has been checked against earlier years of the survey (2004-05) and other sources, including contact with providers, in order to ensure the accuracy of the estimates produced.

COHERENCE

The 2006-07 Natural Resource Management Survey was conducted using a new and expanded frame, based on the Australian Taxation Office's Australian Business Register (ABR). The expanded frame means that estimates from this collection may not be directly comparable with the results from the 2004-05 Natural Resource Management Survey.

It is also noted that in 2004-05, information was also collected for water and native vegetation whereas for 2006-07 the term Natural Resource Management only refers to weed, pest and land and soil management information, unless otherwise specified.

It is recommended that care be taken when comparing estimates from these collections to earlier years. More information on the frame can be found in the explanatory notes section of Natural Resource Management on Australian Farms, 2006-07 (ABS cat. no. 4620.0).
