QUALITY DECLARATION - SUMMARY

INSTITUTIONAL ENVIRONMENT

For information on the institutional environment of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), including the legislative obligations of the ABS, financing and governance arrangements, and mechanisms for scrutiny of ABS operations, please see ABS Institutional Environment.

RELEVANCE

Farm Management and Climate (ABS cat. no. 4625.0) presents information about perceived changes in climate by managers of Australian agricultural businesses, the impacts of these perceived changes, and the changes in management practices made in response to these perceived changes.

TIMELINESS

Farm Management and Climate (ABS cat. no. 4625.0) is released within 15 months of the end of the reference period. At present, this publication is only planned for the 2006–07 reference year.

ACCURACY

Data from the 2006-07 Natural Resource Management Survey, on which this publication is based, had a live response rate of 87% and has been extensively edited. The data has been checked against earlier years of the survey (2004-05) and other sources, including contact with providers, in order to ensure the accuracy of the estimates produced.

COHERENCE

The 2006-07 Natural Resource Management Survey was conducted using a new and expanded frame, based on the Australian Taxation Office's Australian Business Register (ABR). The expanded frame means that estimates from this collection may not be directly comparable with the results from the 2004-05 Natural Resource Management Survey, where applicable. More information on the frame can be found in the explanatory notes section of Natural Resource Management on Australian Farms, 2006-07 (ABS cat. no. 4620.0).

INTERPRETABILITY

The Natural Resource Management Survey provides a broad range of data about the extent of natural resource management activities undertaken by agricultural businesses. This publication (ABS cat. no. 4625.0) presents data for climate themed questions collected by the survey.
