INTRODUCTION

This electronic release presents government finance statistics (GFS) on an accrual accounting basis for the Tasmania state government as follows:

  • Operating statements for 1998-99 to 2002-03;
  • Cash flow statements for 1998-99 to 2002-03; and
  • Balance sheets at 30 June 1999 to 2002.

A table containing statistics for total general government expenses by purpose at the 2-digit GPC level is also included for 1998-99 to 2002-03.

The sectors available in this release include General Government, Public Non-financial Corporations, and Non-financial Public Sector.

The statistics presented for the years 1998-99 to 2000-01 represent audited actual data while the statistics presented for 2001-02 and 2002-03 are preliminary and forward estimates respectively.

While the statistics presented in this release only cover the Tasmania state government, further electronic releases will occur through to late October 2002 covering the various state and territory governments as their estimates become available. All Australia government tables will be released on 30 October 2002.

This series of electronic releases replaces the former printed publication Government Financial Estimates (cat. no. 5501.0).

The summary tables below show the 2001-02 and 2002-03 net lending/borrowing results respectively for Tasmania state government for the general government sector, public non-financial corporations and non-financial public sector.
